From Friuli Venezia Giulia, a famous wine region of Italy on the border with Austria and Slovenia, that is known for the production of the highest quality white wines, but also some spectacular red wines. This Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso is a native grape to the area and is a delicious red wine.
Fruity, floral fragrances with notes of dark cherry, blackberry, blackcurrant and blueberry; subtle hints of green pepper and 'sous bois' undergrowth are also evident. On the palate it is soft and dry with flavours of blackcurrant, fig, liquorice, leather, caramel and chocolate. Rich and smooth, almost creamy body. Beautifully complex and viscous in the glass.
The grapes are delicately de-stemmed and subjected to pressing. The must thus obtained is left to ferment on the skins at a controlled temperature with frequent pumping over in order to extract color and aromas. The refining process continues in glass lined cement barrels.
Pair with Stuffed quail, ministrone, shin of pork, meats on a skewer, a good pairing for game or casserole. Pair with cheeses, such as Asiago (aged), blue cheese/gorgonzola, Castelmagno, Fontina, Gouda, Parmesan, Pecorino or a sharp Cheddar
Serving temperature: 16-18 degrees

WINERY STORY
This very special winery is located in the beautiful hills of Friuli, known as Italian White Wine Heaven: Friuli-Venezia Giulia, which in their mother tongue are called Altùris: a geometry of reliefs engraved by vineyards. Although the region is relatively small compared to the rest of Italy, it ranks among the best for producers of white wines.
It is in this revered place that Marco and Massimo Zorzettig, heirs of a historical family, which has been a symbol of solid entrepreneurship in the wine world for three generations, founded Altùris.
The winery is devoted to the creation of exquisite wines, capable
of carrying all the scents and aromas that the grapes of this unique terroir offer.
At the far North East of Italy, close to Venice and at short walk from Cividale del Friuli at the border with Austria and Slovenia, Altùris vines benefit of an unique microclimate. The Julian Alps protect them from the cold winds of North, while the breezes from Adriatic Sea smooth and mitigate the climate, offering the vineyards exceptional conditions to produce grand quality wines.
The production at Altùris winery is set for 70 percent whites and 30 percent reds. They also produce incredibly great reds.
