"Lively, with sassafras and cinnamon notes backed by juicy cherry fruit. The finish has lightly firm minerality, giving this length and cut." 91/100 James Molesworth, Wine Spectator "Bright, moderately saturated red. Sexy exotic floral note to the aromas of redcurrant, strawberry, raspberry and cinnamon, plus a whiff of honey. Strong fruit here but a bit more literal and substantial, and sweet than the Vrede 2014, with sexy herbal complexity to the red berry fruit. Lovely energy and lift on the back end, with a fine dusting of tannins. Can't quite match the 2014 Vrede for perfume or precision but this wine also needs time." 90/100 Stephen Tanzer, Vinous (May-2017) Hannes Storm says his Pinots have “a linear and fruit focus with violets and rose petals on the nose” and trying both the Vrede and his super rare Moya (100 cases only, from a decomposed granite-rich vineyard in the upper part of the valley) I’d have to agree. He uses only 30% new oak, natural yeasts and does not filter the wines at all. This gives them a vibrancy and energy which is really exciting. Neither wine is flashy but the Vrede is a little more open and richer whilst the Moya is more intense, focused and shows more intellectual complexity.
