Hindleap Ruby 2018 is a limited edition red sparkling wine made from 100% Merlot grapes grown on our estate in Sussex.

The 2018 growing season was unprecedented, a mild spring for budburst, perfect conditions at flowering and extremely high temperatures throughout June and July, followed by a warm and sunny September and October which provided the ideal condition for ripening grapes. 2018 delivered clean fruit of exceptional quality with a great concentration of sugars and fruit flavours, creating aromatic wines with structure and juicy, balanced acidity. The Merlot was harvested on the 30th October.

Hindleap Ruby was fermented in the same way as red wine - cold maceration and 2 weeks skin contact to give a bright and intense colour. The merlot was in tank until February then 9 months lees ageing in bottle. The Ruby sparkling wine was first disgorged on the 28th October 2019. Deliciously fruity and bursting with blackcurrant, black cherry, red cherry and spice aromas and flavours this is a sparkling wine with a difference. The wine pairs beautifully with traditional festive turkey and pigs in blankets or as an aperitif. The wine is 100% vegan.
About the vineyard
Set amidst bluebell-strewn woods from which the vineyard derives its name, Bluebell Vineyard Estates is a family-run vineyard and winery with a passion for producing world class still and sparkling wines.

Established on the site of a former pig farm, the transition from swine to vine began as a hobby: the creation of a fine wine collection, an eye opening visit to Romaneé Conti in France and the belief that truly exceptional wines can be produced in England. The site, once home to thousands of Large Whites, Landrace and Blue Cross Pigs is now home to over 100,000 vines growing premium quality Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier vines along with Seyval Blanc, Bacchus, Ortega, Chasselas and Merlot.

Since our first plantings in 2005, the vineyard has more than doubled in size and we now have nearly 100 acres under-vine stretching across East and West Sussex.
