Auguste Clape's Cotes du Rhone wine is made from Syrah coming from his 1 hectare plot with 30-50 years-old vines. Harvest is made manually. Fermentation in open concrete tanks with natural yeast and ageing for 6 months in concrete tanks and 6 months in wood barrels.

The wine is dark, dense with flavours of black cherries, berries and currants, blueberries, licorice, earthiness and smokiness. Powerful with gripping ripe tannins, balanced with good acidity. This wine is powerful with a great structure for ageing potential. You taste tradition, rusticity, sense of terroir, a great introduction to Auguste Clape's iconic wines from an excellent vintage.

AWARDS AND REVIEWS

90 points Wine Advocate

"Also bottled in September, the 2015 Côtes du Rhône is another inky-colored beauty that’s packed with fruit. It’s more complex and elegant than the Vin des Amis and offers more smoked meats, garrigue, peppery herbs, and red and black fruits. This cuvée comes from more pebbly soils and is open-knit and ready to go. Both entry-level releases are loaded with character." —by Jeb Dunnuck 30Dec2016

"Some of the most singular wines in the world emerge from the dark, barely-lit cellars of Pierre-Marie Clape and his son, Olivier. This is a bastion of traditional winemaking and these wines are not destemmed, see long fermentations, and are aged in ancient barrels and casks. As Robert Parker wrote at one time, “There is nothing wrong with a case of Clape!” I agree wholeheartedly!"
