#31 James Suckling Top 100 Australian Wines 2017

Gorgeous charmer – like molten treacle toffee. Lifted and lively. Actually, readier than some of its peers, very welcoming indeed. Tannins very hidden and really rather light and stony on the end.

A wine that taps into a section of the Barossa that is simpatico to Penfolds' ability to realize bold, powerful reds. This has a dark chocolate-coated blackberry and dark plum nose, some earthy nuances as well as fresh leather, coal smoke, licorice and an overall sense of ripe brooding blackhearted shiraz fruits. The palate has a very powerful, succulent, playfully spicy and richly structured feel to it. Terrific wine. Drink 2020-2030+.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Bin 150 Marananga Shiraz has decadent blueberry pie and crème de cassis notes with touches of milk chocolate, baking spices and dried mint. Full-bodied, rich and seductive in the mouth, it fills the palate with voluptuous, spice-laced black fruit and finishes on a minty note.
