Classified as Sauternes 2ême Cru Classé, Doisy-Daëne is the smaller cousin to Doisy-Vedrines, the larger estate from which it was carved in the 1800s. 18.2 hectares on red clay and limestone. Fermentation takes place in barrel, followed by 10 months ageing in French oak, 65% new, followed by 8 months in tank prior to bottling.

Tasting Notes

Ripe apricot, orange, vanilla and honey; bright and fresh, from an exceptional vintage for sweet wines from Bordeaux. Very long finish, with impressive complexity.

Food Pairing

Moderately rich deserts are ideal; this will also work very well indeed with blue cheese.

Friarwood Says

The late owner of Doisy-Daëne, Georges Dubourdieu, received the Legion d'Honneur from the French government in 2016 for his efforts to promote and improve the white wines of Bordeaux, and was Decanter's Man of the Year 2016. He died of cancer in July of that year, and was mourned throughout Bordeaux.
