Unusually for the region, the chateau of Grand Puy Ducasse is not located in the same area as the vineyards â the former being on the banks of the Gironde, and the latter being away from the river, 40 hectares dotted throughout the Pauillac appellation. Consistent improvement to this previously unheralded estate has seen a marked upswing in quality and consistency.
A meticulously selected 6600 cases (tiny production for Bordeaux) were made; deep ruby in colour, with black fruit on the nose, and impressive complexity from tobacco, cedar, plum and liquorice on the palate. Medium-bodied, with excellent balance. This vintage was something of a turning point for the château, announcing their return to the fold of top quality Pauillac producers.
Partner with mushroom ragout or braised meats.
A delightful wine from an estate on the rise; ready for drinking, and excellent value for a top-quality Pauillac.
