Founded in 1838 in the village of Ay, Deutz is an extremely distinguished old champagne house. Owning a significant portion of the 111 hectares they farm, they produce champagnes of extraordinary finesse, aged in their chalk-walled cellars beneath the village.

Tasting Notes

A powerful vintage, with a lively, expressive character and excellent ageing potential. 2012 was an excepetional vintage for Pinot noir, which makes up 67% of this blend, sourced from Grand Cru vineyards. The balance is 29% Chardonnay from the Cote de Blancs and 4% Pinot Meunier from Leuvrigny. The wine was released after 4 years on the lees (Deutz usually ages for a minimum of 5 years), befitting the fruit-driven character of the vintage. Lush yet delicate, with impeccable balance.

Food Pairing

Spectacular as an aperitif; also excellent with veal, crab, monkfish or a white truffle risotto.

Friarwood Says

Each parcel of vines is vinified seperately prior to final blending to ensure quality and consistency.
