Capensis is a new South African wine brand developed as a partnership between Antony Beck, the Kentucky-based owner of the Graham Beck wine estate (where Capensis is vinified), and Jackson Family Wines chairman Barbara Banke. The idea behind the project is to produce the best Chardonnay possible by blending grapes from three amazing cape area terroirs: Fijnbosch Vineyard, Kaaimansgat Vineyard, E. Bruwer Vineyard.

Tasting Notes

Toasted marshmallow, vanilla and citrus aromas. The palate has the same delicious combination as the nose, with layers of toast, smoke, wood sweetness, a touch of butter, citrus, white peach, then a balanced, long, fresh, slightly salty and youthful-seeming finish.

Food Pairing

Perfect with meaty fish such as monkfish and cream sauce based white meats.

Friarwood Says

Capensis, meaning 'from the Cape', is a leader in bringing South Africa to the forefront as a world-class Chardonnay producer. The commitment to Chardonnay comes from the belief that the truly great vineyard sites around the world are revealed by only a few noble grape varieties.
