Born in 1953, Carlos Moro was raised on his family's vineyards in Ribera del Duero. He embarked upon a career in the Spanish wine industry, before founding his own company in 1988. Today he produces wines from several estates and single-vineyard sites dotted throughout Castilla y Leon. Based in the picturesque town of San Vicente de la Sonsierra, the Rioja wines of Carlos Moro are sourced from 20-hectares owned and 40-hectares managed vineyards spread out across the northern bank of the Ebro River, including some vines over 80 years old.
This prestige cuvee uses older vineyards, dotted throughout the austere landscape of Labastida, and sees a different oak-regime to the CM Rioja, more French oak, and 18 months rather than 12. This results in a complex, intense wine with lively red fruit to balance hefty oak-influence. Rich and lingering on the palate.
Excellent for lamb; for a relaxed pairing, try with a shepherd's pie or a pork roast.
This cuvee is not produced in years when the harvest does not meet strict quality-requirements.
