Beautiful micro-terroir Malbec from the Mendoza. This Malbec Gualtallary # 5 falls under the La Literna series of Bemberg Estate Wines and comes from the Finca El Tomillo vineyard located at 1,210 meters above sea level in Gualtallary in an alluvial range formed by the LasTunas River. The amazing micro-terroir first has a layer of sand that reaches a depth of 60 cm below the surface with a salty layer of calcium carbonate underneath. The Malbec vineyard was planted in 2004 and has a north / south location. La Literna means 'the lantern'. A meaningful name for this series of micro-terroir wines that guarantees a very precise search - with a lantern - for the very best and most extraordinary vineyards. This search takes you on an imaginary journey through the Andes (from north to south) that winemaker Daniel Pi and the Bemberg family have carried out with great passion. The La Literna wines all represent the great diversity that can be seen in Argentina.

Grapes from the best rows of the field are harvested by hand in 450 kg trays. Once in the basement, the bunches are further selected and destructed. The grapes ferment 100 hl concrete barrels, exclusively with the naturally occurring yeasts that are so typical of this vineyard. Traditional maceration is then carried out by means of daily délestage and pumps for 3 weeks, after which pneumatic pressing is performed. The wine is then stored and malolactic conversion takes place and the wine matures for another 18 months in new French oak barrels. Finally, bottling is carried out without stabilizing or filtering to preserve the exceptional character of the wine.

This wine received 96 points from James Suckling: An explosion of dark black cherries, blueberry puree, licorice, dried violets, plum liqueur, mint and eucalyptus. Full body, plenty of plush black fruit, round but very grippy tannins and a long finish.

Intense, full-bodied and also elegant Malbec with serious layering and complexity with intriguing notes of black fruit and spices. Liquorice, cloves, graphite and a hint of white pepper give this wine a beautiful body. The elegant, somewhat earthy scent is an exciting mix of wild herbs, dried mountain grass and truffle. A hint of wild meat and leather add even more interesting layers to this wine, which impresses considerably with its complexity and dry, savory style - even more than through its power. The freshness and the finely structured core of fruit reflect the unique character of the somewhat cooler climate in the high-altitude vineyard Gualtallary. The wine is already drunk but gets even more complex when properly stored.

Aging potential of 15 years. Note from the winemaker: " After a certain time, small natural sediments could be found in the wine, but these do not affect the properties of the wine."

Also very interesting to watch the video of winemaker Daniel Pi, specifically about this micro-terroir Malbec Gualtallary # 5.

Bemberg Estate Wines is located in the Argentinian wine region of Mendoza , the region with the largest area of wine-growing land in Argentina. The winery owns around 3,200 hectares of vineyards and has been producing great wines for years and is always passionate about further development. That is how the Bemberg family came up with the idea of selecting the very best vineyards together with Daniel Pi, who was named Best Argentinian Winemaker, and turned them into phenomenal wines. These single vineyards wines represent beautiful micro-terroirs in different regions of Argentina. The numbers produced were not large, so the family decided to keep them for their own use. However, when the wines turned out to be of very good quality, it was nevertheless decided to not only keep these exclusive wines for themselves, but also to put them on the market.
