"Wow!" - That is a statement that we hear a lot with the wines of Abadia Retuerta. This beautiful winery is the result of a Swiss investment (Novartis) in Spanish land, of which the vineyards and the cellars were laid out and furnished with French expertise. Not just Spanish land, but ideally located slopes overlooking the most famous winery in Spain: Vegas Sicilia. Read more under the heading winery.
2015 Abadia Retuerta Seleccion Especial 0.75 ltrThe Abadia Retuerta Especial is the best known version of Abadia Retuerta. The wine is dark red (opaque) in the glass. In the nose we smell notes of ripe black and red fruits in combination with balsamic vinegar, spicy bouquet (licorice) laurel, havana tobacco, cedar wood, dates with nicely dosed vanilla and oak in the nose. Large, fruity, creamy and lasting in the mouth. Mouth-filling, well-structured material with sufficient freshness and fine, talking tannins. The wine is a great personality. medium to full bodied and very refined and complex. The final blend of the Abadia differs (a little) every year and for the 2015 is a blend of 66% Tempranillo, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Syrah and 2% Merlot. The wine has had 14 months (French new) oak education. The 2015 was again a great year which was rewarded with no less than 92 Parker points! The Abadia Retuerta Especial is also called the French Spaniard or the Spanish Bordeaux and that is not strange because the winemaker at Abadia is Pascal Delbeck the famous winemaker of Chateau Angelus in Bordeaux
