The Haiku from the famous winery from Tuscany is a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Franc and Merlot and now belongs to the list of famous super tuscans. The Haiku has a deep ruby red color and has a very complex books of red cherries, flowers, coffee, mint and spices. In the mouth this medium / full bodied wine is very pleasant with a nice attack of ripe tannins and refined acids. The wine is well balanced and elegant. Like all of the Castello di Ama wines, the Haiku also has strong tannins that give this wine a great storage potential. Certainly as good as the more famous Tignanello (Antinori), but much nicer in price. The wine has received a 94+ rating from Parker and has a drinking window until 2033.
The vineyard is located in Gaiole in Chianti at an altitude between 390-530m above sea level. The soil of the vineyard is rich in lime and clay. The fermentation and maceration takes place in stainless steel tanks for 25 days, malolactic fermentation in barriques followed by an upbringing of 11-13 months in French barriques (30% new, 70% 2nd-3rd) passage)
The name Haiku comes from an original, traditional Japanese Haiku, based on simplicity. On the label is a knight stylized by Guidoriccio da Fogliano, which has its origins in the fresco of Simone Martini, rooted in the Italian tradition.
