The grapes are supplied by producers with whom a long-term relationship has been established, to ensure that they deliver first-class quality fruit every year. The vineyards are in ideal places, where they can benefit from mist from the sea and cold winds from the Pacific. That means an extension of the growing season and grapes that are perfectly aromatic and fresh. They are fermented after harvest in open fermentation vessels, ideal for pinot noir. The wine then goes into French oak barrels for further maturation. The result is amazing, a beautiful Pinot noir with a lot of subtlety and freshness, with an irresistible odor and taste.

Francis Ford Coppola (Detroit, 7 April 1939) is an American director, film producer and screenwriter known from, among others, The Godfather trilogy and Apocalypse Now and is considered one of the most important directors of Hollywood. In addition, Francis Ford Coppola has been active in wine growing and trade since the 1970s. In 1975, he and his wife bought the estate of Finnish sea captain Gustave Niebaum in Rutherford, California (located in the famous Napa Valley wine region) and the surrounding vineyards. This winery is nowadays called the Rubicon Estate Winery. In addition, Coppola also owns the Francis Ford Coppola Winery in the Sonoma Valley.

Winemaking is a long-standing tradition within the Coppola family. Francis Ford Coppola has been making wine even longer than directing films. Grandfather Coppola used to make wine in the cellars of their apartment in New York from grapes that had come especially from California.
