"A commandingly rich and regal wine. Dark cherry and cassis amid gently leafy notes, dark chocolate and red plum compote. The palate has impressive depth with silky tannins. Boysenberry, ripe blueberry and plum fruits sit sweet and vibrant. Best in 2020 and two decades beyond at least. Screw cap. Blend of 78% cabernet sauvignon, 15% cabernet franc and 7% merlot."
96/100 James Suckling (Jan-2017)

"Opaque ruby. Powerful mineral- and spice-tinged dark fruit liqueur, licorice and pipe tobacco aromas are complemented by suggestions of candied lavender, vanilla and cracked pepper. Concentrated yet nervy and sharply delineated, offering intense black and blue fruit and spicecake flavors and a floral oil quality that builds on the back half. Shows excellent clarity and spicy lift on the finish, which is framed by silky, harmonious tannins that fold smoothly into the lush dark fruit."
94/100 Vinous (Oct-2017)

"Cabernet from the Eden Valley has its own cool personality – and absolute authority."
James Halliday, Halliday Wine Companion (2018)

This wine carries the name of winemaker (fifth-generation!) Stephen’s father, Cyril Henschke (1924-1979), as a tribute to one of Australia’s outstanding winemaking pioneers, renowned for old-vine single-vineyard and quality varietal table wines. Cyril planted cabernet sauvignon at Henschke’s Eden Valley vineyard in the 1960s.

The Henschke estate practises biodynamic farming; "I would like to see the next generation inherit a fertile and sustainable land. Using the principles of biodynamics and organics enables me to create the best environment for plant growth."
