Gabriel Meffre have done it again with the stonking Laurus Cotes du Rhone Villages. Dont think of this as an expensive Cotes du Rhone, rather a wine that exhibits characteristics more in common with a £30 Chateauneuf du Pape making it fantastic value at under £15! The wine exhibits a haunting aroma of Garrigue herbs complemented by a palate of blackcurrant, white pepper and dark chocolate. A traditional Rhone blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre aged in Laurus oak barrels for 12 months before bottling. The wine is deep, dark and rich whilst possessing an elegance owing to 50 to 90 year old vines planted in diverse limestone and stony clay soils.
