Black Elephant Vintners is a brilliant small company begun only a few years ago by Kevin Swart ("black") and Raymond Ndlovu ("elephant"), along with winemaker Jacques Wentzel, in part to promote the fantastic fruit of the sublime Franschhoek valley. This layered white blend is hand-picked from four vineyards around the valley, and named for one of founder Kevin's two sons. It's naturally fermented over 4-6 weeks, before maturing for a year in a mixture of steel tank and old French oak.
It's so typical of the creative white blends coming out of the Cape right now. Rich mouthfeel, loads of fruit (apples, pears, apricots), some straw and ginger spice, and very good acidity to leave you refreshed.
Chenin Blanc 33% | Semillon 33% | Sauvignon Blanc 25% | Viognier 9%
