Tasting Notes
Very pale in colour with grey tints, this wine opens with aromas of fresh dates and minerals. Structured and rich on the pallet with excellent length. One of our best finds of 2017.
The Story
Located near the town of Vallet, close to Nantes on the Atlantic Coast, wine has been produced on the acclaimed site ‘Le Grand Fief de l’Audigère’ since 1678. A lieu-dit that sits on gabbro deposits (volcanic rock), wines here are highly-perfumed, floral, with vibrant energy and the region’s famed natural acidity. Current owner Jean Pascal tends to 11 hectares, some 40 years of age, using stainless steel fermentation and glass-lined underground concrete tanks.
He consistently produces excellent examples of age-worthy Muscadet, including the ‘Vallet’, at the very top of the new classification system created in 2014 to highlight this tiny area’s greater pedigree.
