Château Cassagne-Haut-Canon's La Truffière 2016 was purchased in its original wooden cases and is a brilliant value, relatively early drinking right bank Canon-Fronsac. It is drinking beautifully right now, with plenty more development to come in bottle.
La Truffière is Cassagne Haut-Canon's top wine. It refers to the truffles found on the estate by the owners' dog. The Château, a rather charming farmhouse, is perched on a Fronsac hilltop (northwest of Saint-Émilion), with wonderful views over the Dordogne. They often say that wines reflect the winemaker's personality, and Jean-Jacques Dubois is a serious, sensitive man, who cares passionately, yet in a studious, understated fashion, that his wines reflect the very best his superb terroir and mother nature provide him with from one vintage to the next - a welcome respite from certain corporate Bordeaux Château.
