The origins of the Chianti flask or "fiasco" date back to the fourteenth century in Tuscany - the big-bellied shape of the fiasco was inspired by the "borraccia", a goatskin water bag that medieval horsemen attached to their saddles to quench their thirst during long rides. Since its founding in 1877, Ruffino has been instrumental in making the fiasco a symbol of Italian quality and heritage around the world - in fact, the traditional Ruffino fiasco was the first Chianti exported from Italy. This new-style fiasco introduces a modern interpretation of this iconic tradition. Ruffino was among the first wineries to rediscover the Chianti Superiore appellation, which forms the perfect bridge between simpler Chianti D.O.C.G. and more complex, deeper Chianti Classico. Current Chianti Superiore D.O.C.G.s are subject to stricter production standards than Chianti D.O.C.G. wines. This wine wine features the classic characteristics of the Sangiovese grape. Its bouquet is intense and distinctive, with fruity notes of plums and black cherries pleasantly intermingled with black pepper and spices. Intense and full-bodied, elegant, with well-integrated tannins, and a lingering finish, with hints of cherries and fresh plums. Beautifully paired with Italian sausage, lasagna and mature cheeses.
