#2 in Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines of 2018. Canon La Gaffeliere produces classy, remarkably well-structured, complex, pure, and always elegant wines.

Château Canon la Gaffelière which owns 20 hectares exceptional terroirs on the southern slopes of Saint-Emilion, was acquired by the von Neipperg family in early 1970. Coming from a long winemaking tradition, since the 13th century, Niepperg family carried the Chateau to premier cru status. Starting from 1985 with the expertise of famous oenologist Stéphane Derenoncourt as a cellar master, the Chateau has been transformed into one of the stars not only of the appellation but also Bordeaux.

The wine has a high percentage of Cabernet Franc adding more complexity and fine tannins. On the palate, Canon La Gaffeliere has cinnamon and sweet spices in addition to the wide aromatic palette of black fruits, floral and earthy notes. The wine is smooth and very attractive suitable for long ageing potential.

Awards and Reviews

#2 Wine Spectator Top 100 Wines of 2018

97 points, Wine Advocate - Composed of 55% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Franc and 7% Cabernet Sauvignon and aged in French oak, 55% new, for 17 months, the 2015 Canon la Gaffeliere features a deep garnet-purple color and a cedar-laced nose to begin, giving way to fragrant underlying scents of roses and violets with a core of crushed black currants, blackberries and Bing cherries plus hints of fallen leaves and dusty earth. Medium to full-bodied, the seductively perfumed red and black fruit fills the mouth, framed with plush tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing very long and minerally."  by Monica Larner

96 points, Wine Spectator - Still youthfully tight and backward, with a well-roasted frame of alder and juniper holding sway for now, but the core of cassis, blackberry and plum fruit waits in reserve, showing prodigious depth. When the toast and fruit melds, the backdrop of tobacco, singed iron and chalky minerality will get a turn to show. There's a lot here. Built for the cellar. by James Molesworth

95 points, Jeannie Cho Lee - A gorgeous Canon La Gaffeliere that is superb - going beyond what they did in 2010. Layered flavours of spices, herbs, dark berry fruit along with plush, ripe tannins and an amazing finish makes this one of the top St Emilion in this vintage. There is evidence this wine will improve in the bottle though it is delicious young.
