Impressed by the potential of the soil and vineyard, Cheval Blanc bought the Chateau Quinault l'Enclos in 2008. It is a 20 hectares Saint Emilion Grand Cru property with vines an average age of 45 and oldest date back to 1934 providing low yields and adding complexity to the wine. 

The Cheval Blanc team, led by Pierre Lurton, tends the vineyard with the most attentive care with a biological approach. Like the wines of Cheval Blanc, wine is vinified with precision and elegance, with soft tannins, which enchant the senses.

Increasing quality and consistency since the acquisition of Cheval Blanc brought the wine overflown praise by wine critics. A great wine which will age decades beautifully.

Belongs to Cheval Blanc now! Cheval Blanc have pulled out lots of vines and planted Cabernet Sauvignon. Trying to keep very gentle tannins. 50% new oak but all in 500 litre. Quite a change. Very gentle tannins. Really perfumed. Very sweet on the palate. Very different from the old days.

It has a tightly wound, pure bouquet with intriguing graphite and cedar notes infusing the red berry and cassis fruit, perhaps a little Left Bank in style compared to other vintages. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, extremely well defined, a slightly graininess in texture with that graphite element defining the finish. There is great length here, an extremely fine Quinault L'Enclos that will give a lot of pleasure with just 4-5 years in bottle. By Neal Martin
