Laurel is the second wine of the iconic Clos Erasmus, one of Spains most sought-after Priorat wines. Made mostly from Garnacha, blended with some Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah.

Owned by Daphne Glorian, one of the five winemakers who transformed Priorat into a cult wine region, the Laurel no longer stands in the shadow of its big brother Clos Erasmus, as evidenced by its 95 point score in recent vintages by the Wine Advocate it is a big wine on its own, while being four times cheaper than its big brother.

Laurel is aged in a combination of vessels oak barrels, oak vats, cement and most interestingly amphorae.

AWARDS AND REVIEWS

95 Points, Jeb Dunnuck

The 2016 Laurel is sensational stuff and, in truth, matches several older vintages of the grand vin in quality. A blend of 80% Grenache, 15% Syrah, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon, aged 16 months in a mix of oak, concrete, and amphora, this deep purple-colored beauty offers up a fresh, vibrant bouquet of blueberries, crisp plums, violets, and spring flowers. Possessing full-bodied richness, beautiful depth of fruit and richness, and a fresh, elegant style, its a brilliant wine thats going to evolve gracefully for 10-15 years.

I was really blown away by the aromatics of the 2014 Laurel. As soon as I put my nose in the glass I was transported to the vineyards of Gratallops, with a blast of wild herbs and flowers followed by a stream of smoked meat, juicy red currants and raspberries. It is mostly Garnacha but with some 10% each Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes are cooled down during the night and in the morning some are destemmed, and some others are left with the stems on and fermented mostly with indigenous yeasts. The élevage here is one year in a combination of used oak barrels, oak vats, cement and amphorae. They have increased the volume of wine being raised in amphorae in this 2014. This might very well be the finest Laurel to date. Simply stunning! 24,000 bottles were produced in 2014. by
