Reserve de la Comtesse is the Second wine of Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande ('Pichon Lalande'), 2nd growth Grand Cru is one of the most prestigious appellations of Pauillac in Bordeaux.

Pichon-Lalande has an unusually high proportion of Merlot in the blend. In style, it is elegant and fine rather than a powerhouse, managing to combine great depth of fruit with a lightness of touch. Its combination of abundant but fine tannins, firm acidity and taut structure allows it to age gracefully, creating a silky, alluring wine in maturity. "An iron fist within a velvet glove!"

Available in 6 bottles wooden cases, if you prefer.

Really very opulent - just like blackberry juice! Until some slightly drying tannins on the end. Very Merlot-influenced with great sweetness. Early maturing. A real fleshy charmer.

Wonderful concentration with elegance and intense perfume - violets and cassis, blackberries with layers of cassis. Beautiful silky tannins with finesse and delicacy. This year the Cabernet was very good so the blend is 53% Cabernet and 40% Merlot. Long and fine - great Reserve.

It has a very fine, quite sophisticated and pure bouquet with black cherries, cedar and violet aromas, perfumed and sensual. The palate is medium-bodied with supple, rounded tannin that is cloaked by layers of tobacco-tinged black fruit that segues into a long, lightly spiced finish. This is a delightful, quite serious deuxième vin that I suspect will age much longer than drinkers will afford it. Try to give this five years and you will be rewarded.
