Nero Cappuccio by Sicilian winemaker Cummo is made of a mysterious grape Nero Cappuccio that Sicilian winemakers neglected in recent decades to the point of risking its extinction. It is a very ancient grape, perhaps the oldest in Sicily.
The name of this Italian red 1908- relates to the year of birth of the founder of the winery. The wine gradually ages in three stages: six months in steel, six months in large oak barrels and eighteen months in French oak barriques. The nose expresses aromas of ripe red fruit, dried figs, toasted dried fruit, carob and leather. Palate Profile: full-bodied, tannin-rich, well-balanced and nuanced with almond.
Recommended with hearty pasta dishes, red meat, game, mature cheeses. Also excellent in wine-based risotto.
