THE WINERY - MASSOLINO

Located in the historic centre of Serralunga dAlba, our wine cellar was once very small, built into the marl below the house that was the birthplace of much of our family.

In those times, the complicated social situation, combined with economic hardship, imposed a complex reality on people, with a focus on self-sustenance; because of this, crops were diversified, grains and nuts were produced and Piedmontese cattle were raised.

Midway through the 30s, we moved, if you can say that, to the other side of the only road that crosses the village of Serralunga, situated on the top of one of the most beautiful hills of the Langhe, in Piedmont.

Below the family estate we have organised the first vinification and aging department!

The years pass, times change and little by little we have had the luck to be able to exclusively follow our passion, dedicating all of our energy to the production of grapes and wine.

All the expansions to the production departments have always been made in respect of the fantastic harmony of the medieval village of Serralunga dAlba.

RISERVA BAROLO VIGNA RIONDA

Barolo Vigna Rionda is one of the most representative wines of Serralunga d'Alba.

To understand the extraordinary uniqueness of the Vigna Rionda cru is necessary to observe in detail the microclimatic characteristics of this small patch of ground.

All the crus turned in the direction of Monforte d'Alba receive in fact, compaired to those turned to the left of the ridge, the protection of Castelletto hill from north-west winds and an almost total exposure to the afternoon heat.

On this side of the ridge is located the cru Vigna Rionda, renowned for its ability to occur in a rigid and powerful style of wine.

Massolino family, owner for generations of a beautiful portion of Vigna Rionda central nucleus, turned the Barolo produced here in her main flagship.

So as to insert the mention Vigna Rionda in the company name, raising it up as a symbol of its production.

Having the opportunity to taste Barolo Vigna Rionda by Massolino is the equivalent of touching the highest peak of Barolo expressiveness.

10 YEASRS SPENT WITH THE FAMILY

This Barolo originates from Nebbiolo, an italian grape-variety which is one of the most prestigious in the world. It comes from a historic hill in the Langhe district and has inherited the stong, decisive character of the marly soils of its birthplace: Vigna Rionda. It has been shaped by time, having spent ten years in the family cellar, because only patient ageing can give such a nobly structured wine all the complexity and charm that make it unique and inimitable.
