One of the most romantic chateaux in the Medoc, built in the 16th Century, surrounded by a moat. The estate itself can be dated back to 1152, when the wines were served at the wedding of Eleanor of Aquitaine. A 3rd-Growth, Chateau d'Issan was purchased by the Cruse family shortly after the Second World War, and saw extensive refurbishment; the wines are often amongst the finest in the appellation in any given vintage, especially since Emmanuel Cruse took over management of the estate in 1998.
Beautifully perfumed, with a rich, silky dark-fruit palate of black plums and Morello cherry, balanced by an unexpected freshness and hefty tannic structure, a wine with a bright future ahead.
Excellent for rich, succulent dishes, lamb, steak, even barbecue pork.
The jury is out as to whether or not this is an even better wine than the spectacular 2009, we say try both, and decide for yourself!
