A domaine with a long, hallowed history in Burgundy; in 1855 the Domaine de la Pousse d'Or was part of a larger estate which included Romanee-Conti and Clos de Tart. Since 1997 the domaine has undergone extensive expansion and regeneration, with organic viticulture (uncertified) and minimal intervention in the cellar.
Black cherries, liquorice, spice and bright minerality. Plush, yet silky, with all the classic delicacy of Volnay. Aged in French oak, 30% new, for 15 months.
Perfect with lightly seasoned steak, or hard, aged cheeses.
Half the vines in the clos were replanted in the 1950s, the rest in the 1980s. An ouvree is a unit of measurement from the Middle Ages, denoting the amount of land that could be ploughed by a single farmer in a single day.
