The famous Adrianna vineyard in Gualtallary is perhaps the most studied vineyard in the world and is Catena's best vineyard for malbec. The vineyard is situated at a respectable height of no less than 1480 meters. Only in this part (height and plot) can the Malbec vine absorb the optimum of nutrients, which ensures that this absolute grandcru among the Adriannas is remarkably expressive and distinctive. Since 2011, high-end Adriannas have been produced under the name: Adrianna Mundus Bacillus Terrae, the Adrianna Fortuna Terrae and the Adrianna River Stones.
Fortuna Terrea means "Happiness of the Land" and has been chosen as this small plot in the Adrianna vineyards delivers a unique and so beautiful Malbec terroir. The grapes (and we) can be happy with this beautiful plot. The plot has a substantial loam layer which wells through. The soil is covered with all kinds of grasses which creates an enormous diversity of insects and birds. It is 5 hectares in size and lies at an altitude of almost 1400 meters. Due to the clay soil and the high altitude, the malbec grapes can take root and there are serious temperature differences between day and night. This ensures a fresh, very elegant, delicate wine. The wine is spicy, with black fruit and good acidity. This is a great Malbec and the wine received no less than 96/100 Points from Parker and 98/100 James Suckling. Of the 2014, only around 5000 bottles have been made and these have been distributed worldwide, which means only a handful of bottles per country. The wine can be drunk young but can also be enjoyed for decades. This is an absolute collector item and unprecedentedly beautiful. In spite of its high price, this is only a pittance compared to the expensive burgundy and burgundy.
Bodega Catena Zapata is seen as the flagship of the wineries in Argentina. Robert Parker's statement says a lot: 'when all is said and done, Catena Zapata is the Argentina winery of reference, the standard of excellence'.
