Maison Champy is the oldest winery in Burgundy and was founded in 1720 in Beaune. Louis Pasteur worked on this iconic estate to learn the trade and Gustave Eiffel, after building the Eiffel Tower for the World Exhibition in Paris, worked at Maison Champy, where he designed the building for the Maison Champy winery according to the architectural style of Eiffel.
Maison Champy organically manages a large part of its 21 hectares of vineyards on the Côte de Beaune - especially in Pernand-Vergelesses - to preserve and emphasize the true character of this exceptional terroir. Precision viticulture is the goal of Maison Champy. The importance of the environment means that every treatment follows the practices of sustainable and organic farming.
This 100% Chardonnay Bourgogne Cuvée Edme is the "signature" of the oenologist Dimitri Bazas. This Bourgogne Chardonnay comes from a selection of the best Chardonnay barrels from vineyards in the classic regions of Puligny, Meursault and Rully. This harmonious blend gives it both the classic character of Chardonnay from the Côte d'Or and the floral elegance typical of the Côte Châlonnaise.
In the glass, the Maison Champy Bourgogne Chardonnay has a bright color, yellow gold with golden accents. It has a strong aromatic intensity. The nose is rich with notes of exotic fruits and white flowers, notes of caramel and vanilla with toasted bread in the background. Fresh in the mouth, a luscious body, soft and round. The finish has a good aromatic persistence with an excellent balance between the fruit and the acidity making this a great wine with a great price/quality burgundy from the oldest winery in Burgundy
FACT: The 2014 EDME has been re-released in very limited edition in Spring 2022. Dimitri has kept a barrel of this great vintage and that was a great idea. Such freshness and complexity.
