Wine is the focus of everyday life at Geyerhof. Joy and respect for life determine the actions and working methods.
The winery was first mentioned in the municipal records in the 12th century and has been in the hands of the family since the 16th century. Ilse and Josef Maier have passionately cultivated 23 hectares of vineyards here since 1988 according to organic regulations. Since 2015, Maria & Josef, the next generations, have joined the family business. lse Maier and her son make organic wines that are juicy and friendly at Geyerhof in the Kremstal.
The Goldberg erste Lage (1OWT) comes from Riesling grapes from more than 85 years old vines and only a very limited number of bottles are made (530 bottles). Beautiful fruit, silky density, incredibly elegant, brilliant, huge aging potential comes from a vineyard This Riesling Goldberg is complex on the nose with ripe tropical fruit, citrus, honey and mint. The wine has elegant acidity and an enormous aftertaste. When drunk young, this Riesling Goldberg is charming and shy. However, keeping this wine for a few years is very beneficial! The wine is then a firework of ripe fruit with a hint of honey, ripe apricots, melon and fine notes of meadow herbs, delicate acidity and rich in extract; juicy, full of finesse with a great long finish. This wine can be widely used at the table with most dishes of fish and seafood, white meat, spicy Eastern dishes and with a sweet dessert.
The Goldberg vineyards are located on southern slopes with a unique, very warm microclimate. The vines are over 85 years old. The grapes are harvested manually at the end of October, pressed with the whole bunch, after which natural fermentation takes place very slowly in stainless steel tanks. Geyerhof always chooses to release the wines later, partly because their natural fermentation often proceeds slowly and the wines therefore do not present themselves so well the year after the harvest.
