Bodegas Maurodos is owned by the renowned winemaker Mariano Garcia and his sons Eduardo and Alberto and the producers of beautiful wines such as the Prima and the Mauro. The San Roman is only made in the good wine years. The San Roman is 100% Tinta de Toro (Tempranillo) from a 35 year old vineyard which is situated on a sandy, stony soil rich in clay in the Toro. The San Roman has matured for 25 months on French and American oaks, 80% of which are new. He lays a film of an opaque purple color against the glass and gives a complex bouquet of roasted oak, graphite, moist soil, licorice, tapenade and black currant. The taste is full, with an abundance of fine tannins and sufficient acids and perseverance. A Toro with character. The 2014 is a beautiful version of San Roman.
