Bodegas Emilio Moro "Malleolus Sanchomartin" Ribera Del Duero is a red wine from the region Castilla y Leon in Spain. The absolute topper in the Emilio Moro range. Pricey, but compared to many grands crus classés from Bordeaux of the same quality, still a great opportunity. The Sancho Martin comes from a vineyard of only 0.84ha so supply is extremely limited.
The vineyard is located on a terroir of a mixture of sandy clay, marl and limestone. Both malolactic fermentation and aging are carried out in new French oak barrels. The maturation takes 18 months. In the glass, the wine has an intense, deep cherry red color. Complex and elegant aromas with subtle, floral notes, that the liqueurs, mulberry and blackcurrant. The balsamic notes of the oak are perfectly integrated into the ensemble of the wine. Warm and sweet on the pallet with balanced acidity and great quality of tannins that is fondly in the pallet. The wine has a warm finish that lasts forever. Only 2,300 bottles of this amazing 2016 Sancho Martin were made and only a handful of magnums.
The cool temperatures at the beginning of spring in 2016 and the abundant rains slowed the vineyard's budding somewhat. These latter rains were of great significance for the rest of the vine's vegetative cycle, as the accumulated water reserves resulted in a year of bountiful, balanced harvest and great ripeness, so 2016 was a perfect year to get everything right.
