Herdade do Sobroso is located in Vidigueira in the Alentejo region. This is one of the oldest wine regions in Portugal. In the beautiful Alentejo, Herdade do Sobroso has a perfect location with its vineyards located on the banks of the River Guadiana and the tributary Rio dos Patos or the river of ducks. The trademark is therefore the ducks on the labels. It is the perfect setting for the ripening of the grapes and few vineyards have this luxury and this partly explains why this winery can make very beautiful wines because there is never water debt. In addition to the fact that there is sufficient water, this region is the only one within the Alentejo that has an ocean influence that ensures a healthy ripening.

The Grande Reserva is the pride of Herdade do Sobroso and is a blend of the Alicante Boushet & Cabernet Sauvignon. The Sobroso Grande Reserva is a true terroir wine with focus on the maximum expression of the unique terroir of Herdade do Sobroso next to the banks of the Guadiana River, where the vineyards are located.
The best grapes have been carefully selected which, after a soft fermentation, have been fermented in stainless steel open-air vessels with controlled temperature, after which the wine may mature for at least 18 months in new French oak barrels, followed by a bottle aging of at least 6 months before it becomes available. These wines are always made between 6000-7000 bottles and only come in the top years. The bottles are numbered.

The Grande Reserva has a dark fresh red color in the glass and shows how the wine is: powerful and refined. The wine has red fruit such as cherry and berry, but also dark fruit such as ripe blackberries. We also smell leather, espresso, vanilla and pencil shavings. On the palate the wine is full bodied, fresh with firm yet soft tannins and the finish is long and very elegant. This is a real enjoy wine and a gastronomic all-rounder, so the Grande Reserva is an excellent accompaniment to traditional Portuguese meat dishes or with ripe cheeses, but also delicious with a beautifully aged Rib Eye
