The Spier Estate Rhone Blend Creative Block 3 is a blend of the typical Rhone grapes of Shiraz (81%), Mourvèdre (16%) and Viognier (3%). The wine is a deep cherry red with a seductive, complex and warm fragrance with hints of violets and cherries, pepper, wonderfully wide, open and soft. The taste is wonderfully pure and elegant, soft and juicy, fresh, tannins, some cream and above all tempting. The Spier Block 3 is a beautiful wine that can compete with great Rhone wines but with a clearly better price.

The wines in Spier's Vintage Collection are among the very best produced here. They are special wines, not only by using only the best grapes, but also because in this series we work with a few special blends, combinations of grape varieties that together can make for a special wine. In fact wines made in a kind of classic, 'French' style. This beautiful glass of wine, for example, is a blend of Rhône grapes, which reinforce each other perfectly. Shiraz gives it wonderful freshness and elegance; from the mourvèdre it gets backbone and strength, viognier is the finishing touch, and strengthens the fruit and aromas of the other grapes. The grapes are planted on southwestern slopes to give them more freshness. They are harvested by hand, and then they go through a short fermentation of one week at a fairly low temperature to make an elegant wine. Open oak barrels and stainless steel are used for the fermentation. The wine is then aged in barrels of French and American oak for 14 to 16 months. With a delicious result, pure and fine.
