The Knipser brothers presented their first red wines of international standard as early as the early 1980s. Since then they have been fully committed to perfecting the vineyard methods and therefore also the quality of the wine. Their focus is Große Gewächse Riesling and Pinot Noir. Weingut Knipser located in Laumersheim in the second largest wine region of Germany, Pfalz. Knipser has been chosen several times as the best winemaker in Germany.
Knipser is known for its many excellent wines from different types of grape varieties such as; Spätburgunder, St. Lauren, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Grauburgunder, Weissburgunder, Gewürztraminer and even the Bordeaux grape varieties Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon!! A wide range of grape varieties, allowing him to produce different types of wines from styles such as Burgundy to Bordeaux from one area of origin. 95% of the wines are dry, mainly from traditional grape varieties, these are accompanied by wines from non-indigenous varieties, but with a Palatinate interpretation.
As with all of Knipser's premium wines, the red wines only become available after several years of maturation. The Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder) grapes come from various vineyards around Laumerheim. The red Spätburgunder Trocken is harvested manually with a classic yeast fermentation and maturation for 12 months in used barriques. In the nose notes of red berries and cherries. A fine yet powerful Burgunder with a good structure. In the mouth complex flavors of raspberries, cherries and notes of a cigar box and espresso powder. Delicious with roast or grilled beef, pork and poultry.
