Since its foundation in 1933, Baron Philippe de Rothschild SA has been based in Bordeaux. In addition to its prestigious vineyards in the Medoc, this renowned winery also owns many plots in Chile and California. Baron Philippe de Rotschild SA's ambition is to produce the world's best wines, each in its own category. Combining traditional science, experienced employees and state-of-the-art technology, Rothschild uses skill and dedication to transform the gifts of nature into true works of art and sources of pleasure.

The grapes for the Baron Philippe de Rothschild Escudo Rojo Carmanere are hand-picked in the early morning to preserve their freshness and aromatic potential and are then brought to Baron Philippe de Rothschild Maipo Chili bodega. The Carmanere vineyard itself is located in the Valle del Rapel. The deep loamy soils of this Valle del Rapel provide powerful and mineral Carmenere grapes. The Valle del Rapel is located in the heart of Chile, 200 km south of the capital Santiago de Chile. It ranges from the foothills of the Andes to the coast of the Pacific, making this wine region very diverse in terms of climate and soil conditions. It is precisely for this reason that the "winemakers" of Baron Philippe de Rothschild have chosen Maipo Chile de Valle del Rapel to cultivate some grape varieties. The partly Mediterranean climate is ideal for the emergence of fully ripe Carmenere grapes, among other things.

The Carmanere grape is somewhat the figurehead of Chile and this Escudo Rojo Carmenere is an example of strength, fruit but also freshness. After fermentation, the wine has between 6-8 months in oak barrels used for aging. This gives it its full and soft character, while retaining the flavor without excessive wood influence.

The Carmanere sprays from the glass with dark fruit, Esperesso, sweet spicy notes and some vanilla and plum. The wine is velvety on the palate with a bit more red fruit such as jers and red currants. This Escudo Rojo Carmenere is a great version made by the winemakers of Baron Philippe de Rothschild with an excellent price / quality.
