The production of the Mikulski wines is organic, for the grapes only sulfur and copper are used which is standard, for the rest they do not use preventive or curative means. The vineyards are scattered throughout Meursault and the neighboring villages, and only a quarter of these vineyards are used to make red wine, the rest is focused on Meursault. They do not use barrels older than 7 years for maturing the wine and they usually do not use new wood for the Meursaults. The barrels that they use are made of oak. However, the Poruzots and Genevrières are nowadays matured in a new 500l barrel. Francois and his wife own 8.5 hectares of vineyards.
This Mikulski Meursault "Les Genevrières" is made from a mix of chardonnay and pinot blanc grapes, the Meursault is one of the best Mikulski's. The wine develops over the years into a fine and elegant profile. The aromas released from a glass of this Meursault are both fruity and spicy and contain minerals. This wine is a nice representation of what Francois Mikulski wants to achieve with his wine: Purity and minerality. This Premier Cru Meursault is a wine with a lot of power and complexity. A large, white burgundy that will improve over the years.
Francois Mikulski gave a nice explanation of what a Meursault makes a Meursault when he was asked this question:
" What makes a Meursault a Meursault is a certain style; however, there is no perfect style, the style differs per wine and per winemaker. For me the best style is minerality. In white wine I want purity, minerality and of course I want a certain acidity, so that the wine is also exciting. I want a wine where people drink after drinking a glass for another glass, which means that it is refreshing. "
