Unbelievable- what a wine for this price. This Pruno is still young but still has a lot of potential for the coming years. Unbelievable- what a wine for this price. This Pruno from Finca Villacreces is still young but still has a lot of potential for the coming years. Time after time this beautiful wine scores very high with the international wine press and they have proven at Finca Villacreces to be able to produce a consistent quality year-on-year. Parker speaks in his review about: "WOW - normally such a wine costs between 75-150 dollars !!!" and talks about "over-delivering". The total area of 60 hectares of vineyard was half used in the past by Peter Sisseck in his Flor de Pingus assembly. This Pruno is therefore an incredible wine for its price. The Pruno is a sensational wine.
The Finca Villacreces is an old abbey located on the "Golden Mile" along the Duero River in the Ribera del Duero designation of origin in Spain. The total area of the estate is 115 hectares, of which 60 hectares are vineyards. This 60 hectare is spread over 15 different plots that all contribute to the quality of the wines in this impressive domain. The sandy terroir and the high location of the vineyards do not make it easier to get the planted grapes tinta del païs (tempranillo), merlot and cabernet sauvignon ripe. The more than 100 year old pine trees do contribute to a microclimate in which the grapes feel good and the harvests have been of an exceptionally high level, especially in recent years. Due to its high location, especially merlot and cabernet sauvignon have a hard time getting ripe here. In recent years a lot has been invested in the vineyards: drip irrigation, the sticks are tied higher to get more leaves and thus better photosynthesis and the young planting of the newest vineyards already gives unprecedented quality fruit. Grapes are only harvested here at optimum ripeness and this results in beautifully concentrated wines with a fine acidity. All wines from Finca Villacreces undergo malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels. Depending on the wine, the bearing is determined on cask. Naturally, the harvest year also influences this and deviates from the standard. Pruno undergoes a bearing of 12 months, Reserva a bearing of 16 months and the Nebro even 18 months. After bottling, the bottles remain in the cellar for a long time before being marketed. This is shorter for the Pruno than for the other wines.
