100 percent Nebbiolo is your glass. The topper of the winery Montaribaldi which we believe has more to offer than most (much) more expensive Barolo's. The Sori is one of the top wines of the wine company of the Talliano brothers. From the vineyard "facing south" (=Sori), on the slope by the house. A top cell that produces ever better wine. The vineyard is located in the municipality of Barbaresco and is located at an altitude of 270 meters with a southern (sori) exposure. This is one of the reasons why this vineyard produces beautifully matured Nebbiolo grapes. By the way, the land around it all belongs to Gaja. Thanks to the perfect location of the vineyards of Montaribaldi and the typical white soil of the Langa hills, the elegant wines that come from it have a long life

The grapes are destemmed and soaked for 14 days, 4 days at a temperature of 30 to 32°C, 10 days at 27 to 28°C. At the end of the fermentation process, the wine is placed in new oak barrels for 2 years. After a light purification, the wine is bottled and remains in the cellars of Montaribaldi for another year, after which the Sori Barberesco is released on the market.

The Sori Barberesco is a very elegant wine and very rich in fragrance. In the glass, the wine has a deep garnet red color with orange reflexes. The scent of roses and violets comes through clearly and blends well with the scent of plums, tobacco, cocoa, cloves and black peppers. Powerful, strong tannins, sweet and velvety. Length. Advice is certainly to give the wine some oxygen in its younger years and to open the wine 2 hours in advance and then you get a mighty nice glass of wine. Balance, length, intensity and concentration of flavors, everything is right about this wine. So enjoy and this Barbaresco DOCG Sorì Montarbaldi is perfect to combine with red and roasted meat and savory aged cheese.

YEAR 2017

The 2017 vintage was dry and featured a mild winter with little rain. The shoot-out of the vines started early but during the spring the abrupt drop in temperature and the heavy rain and hail caused damage; from May the temperature returned to normal and the harvest period was dry and warm. In summary, 2017 was complex, a lower yield but an undisputed high quality.

BAROLO VS BARBERESCO

Piemonte - synonymous with truffles, risotto and, of course, delicious wines! - is considered one of the best wine regions of Italy. The local conditions of terrain, soil and weather make some fantastic wines. As far as the red wines are concerned, the Barolo's and Barbaresco's are world-famous, powerful aging wines. Although the Barolo and Barbaresco are made from the same grape, Nebbiolo, and produced in adjacent areas less than 16km apart, the Barbaresco and Barolo wines have some distinctive differences.

The Barbaresco area is located south of the River Tanaro and the area, due to its location, has a slightly higher average temperature which allows the Nebbiolo grape to ripen just a little earlier here than in the Barolo area. Young tannins in a young Barbaresco are often not as hard as Barolo and under DOCG rules it is allowed to release Barbaresco for sale a year earlier than Barolo. The most pronounced difference between the two wines is that Barbaresco's tannins tend to soften more quickly with the wine being more accessible than Barolo at a younger age. The Barbaresco area is smaller than the Barolo area with an annual production of about 35% of the Barolo production with the result that Barbaresco is not widely available on the market.
