The Knipser brothers already presented their first red wines of international standard in the early 1980s. Since then, they have been fully committed to perfecting the vineyard methods and therefore also to the quality of the wine. Their focus is Große Gewächse Riesling and Pinot Noir. Weingut Knipser located in Laumersheim in Germany's second largest wine region, Pfalz. Knipser has been voted the best winemaker in Germany several times.
Knipser is known for its many excellent wines from different types of grape varieties such as; Spätburgunder, St. Lauren, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Grauburgunder, Weissburgunder, Gewürztraminer and even the Bordeaux grape varieties Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon !! A wide range of grape varieties, with which he can produce different types of wines from styles such as Burgundy to Bordeaux from one region of origin. 95% of the wines are dry, mainly from traditional grape varieties, these are accompanied by wines from non-indigenous varieties, but with a Pfalz interpretation.
The Steinbuckel Riesling Grosses Gewächs from Knipser is the Grandcru among the Riesling. The riesling grapes come from a small vineyard located in the Palatinate on a surface of marl and limestone. The Pfalz is the region located against Alsace and has the most sun hours in Germany, which is why this region is famous for its white dry wines and the red Spatburgunders (Pinot Noir). This beautiful Riesling is fresh, cool, mineral, lime-like with beautiful notes of green fruit, peach, spiced and very elegant ending with a mineral, long finish with good maturing potential. With this crazy riesling we understand a bit why Knisper is seen as one of the best houses in Germany.
