The great winery Deutzerhof is located far from the bustle of the Ahr-Rotwein-Straße, in the middle of the vineyards of Mönchberg, on the edge of Mayschoss an der Ahr. Deutzerhof was first mentioned in 1574 as a winery in Mayschoss. In 1980 Wolfgang Hehle moved to its current location, close to the vineyards of Mönchberg.
The Ahr Valley in northern Rhineland-Palatinate is one of the most recognized and emerging (red) wine-growing regions in Germany. About 85% of the vineyard area is used for the cultivation of first-class red wines. The mix of grape varieties at Deutzerhof reflects this. 72% of Deutzerhof's vineyards are Pinot Noir, 13% Frühburgunder, 1% Dornfelder and 1% Portugier. The white varieties Riesling and Chardonnay have a share of 10% and 2% respectively. Of the red grape varieties, the majority is Pinot Noir or Spätburgunder and Deutzerhof is the unwitting expert on this king of grapes.
The Mayschosser Pinot Noir is the interpretation of the typical Ahr Bourgogne and is famous for the combination of the fruit with the rough slate. The grapes for this Pinot Noir come from the mineral shale slopes in the Mayschosser Kessel. After spontaneous fermentation and malolactic fermentation, the wine is traditionally aged in large old oak barrels and in steel tanks. New oaks in barriques are deliberately avoided for this wine. This Cossmann Hehle VDP Ortswein has a beautiful clear ruby red color in the glass. In the nose and mouth, fruit, strength and minerality go together very nicely in harmony. The Mayschosser Pinot Noir has aromas full of berries and cherries in the nose with a spicy note with good acidity. In the mouth elegance, drinking pleasure and seduction with dark fruit tones and a peppery spice - typical of a German pinot noir or a Spätburgunder.
