The 'Azienda agricola Montaribaldi' is historically a family business, located in the middle of the Langhe hills in the small village of Barbaresco. The Montaribaldi grapes grow among the vineyards of Angelo Gaja's famous winery. Not the least to have as neighbors. The owners of winery Montaribaldi , the brothers Luciano and Roberto Taliano are therefore very happy with their plots of land, which are scattered in the Langhe and Monferrato hills. Wine has been made here for centuries and even UNESCO appreciates the interplay of people and nature by recently including this region in the prestigious World Heritage List. Although the Montaribaldi winery has been around for a long time, the brothers in wine terms have not been around for very long, since 1994. But together with winemaker Carlo Arnulfo they are already making beautiful Piemonte wines with a great price / quality ratio.

The family makes some of the most famous wines from the Piedmont region: Barbaresco DOCG, Barolo DOCG, Barbera d'Alba DOC, Barbera d'Asti DOCG, Roero Arneis. They offer a complete range of wines, from grapes typical of this region. Typical of this winery is that the wines have their origin in Piedmont, are always recognizable as a 'Montaribaldi' wine and are sustainably grown and produced. As they call it themselves: making 'vineyard wines' distinguishes them from others.

The Barbera d'Asti DOCG La Consolina comes from vineyards located in the municipality of Costigliole d'Asti - and this is the sweet spot where the finest Barbera D'Asti's come from. the vineyard has a south-eastern position at an altitude of 200 meters and was planted in 1960. The terroir consists of a sandy soil with marl and limestone in the upper layers. It is therefore not surprising that the La Consolina has such a beautiful mineral nose and aftertaste. The Barbera grapes are harvested between the end of September and the first half of October, after which the grapes are destemmed and bruised. They are then placed in stainless steel thermo-conditioned tanks where alcoholic fermentation takes place. The alcoholic fermentation lasts about a week at a temperature of 27-29 ° C.

The wine is then left to drizzle for 2-3 months (temperature of 20-22 ° C) to complete the malalactic fermentation. Then, the wine is allowed to mature for about 4 months (at a very low temperature) and finally, in the summer after harvesting, the Barbera d'Asti DOCG La Consolina is bottled and after several months storage in the cellars of Montaribaldi the wine becomes available.

In the glass, the La Consolina has a beautiful ruby red color with purple reflexes. In the nose wine is fruity, fresh, mineral with a spiced bouquet. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied with a good structure and soft tannins. This is a delicious smooth elegant wine that goes with many meals but also great as an aperitif, on the terrace by the BBQ or by the fireplace.
