Rivera is the only one with Castel del Monte with DOC & DOCG status in Central-North Apulia (Puglia) and is the pioneer of Apulian (Puglia) wines. Today Rivera is still owned by the De Corato family. It is run by Carlo de Corato and his sons Sebastiano and Marco, with great enthusiasm and a dynamic management approach.
The De Corato family belongs to a small group of famous winemakers and is the only representative of the Apulia region in the "Istituto Grandi Marchi" (www.istitutograndimarchi.com). This institution houses the 19 most prestigious Italian wine producers such as Antinori, Gaja, Biondi Santi, Masi, Sassicaia, Pio Cesare, Tasca d'Almerita, Lungarotti, Lageder, Jermann to name a few.
With this Rivera Primitivo winery Rivera shows the balanced mix of the characteristics of the primitivo grape. Primitivo is today one of the most renowned Italian grape varieties with its intense, fruity and soft character. Due to the unique (and cool) location of the Rivera vineyards, it is possible to make a very accessible and fresh wine that enhances the intense aromas of the black fruit of this variety. The Primitivo vineyard is located on the Salento peninsula in the southern part of the Apulia region. The vineyards are located on calcareous clay soils at an altitude of 50-80 meters and this is what makes the Salento Primitivo so popular. The wine was aged for 9 months in glass-lined concrete to keep the fruit and varietal character intact
In the glass, the Rivera Primitivo has a beautiful fresh purple-red color. Fresh fruit on the nose with impressions of wild blackberry and raspberry. On the palate, the wine is medium bodied with surprising complexity on the palate. This wine has a pleasantly long finish and is also such a wine with a great price/quality ratio. Preferably served at 16 ° -18 ° C. This tasty red wine goes well with beef, venison, lamb and dishes with a rich taste. Also delicious with pasta dishes, but also just delicious to drink standalone.
