When Rene Barbier brought the abandoned very old "coster" (steep-sloping traditional Priorat vineyard) back into production it was thought that they had bought a plot of Carinyena (Carignan) ... and to their great surprise they discovered that 40% of the plot consisted of Garnatxa Peluda (native Grenache). This grape ripens for the Carinyena (Carignan) and gives more freshness. Coincidence and luck because it is the last piece of the puzzle that one needed to transfer the balance of Bellvisos.
The Partida Pedrer belongs to the Bellvisos vineyard but this part faces north and allows the winemaker to harvest the shady freshness and sun-drenched morning warmth. With slightly less direct sunlight in warm climates, this gives very elegant wines. The young plantation of Grenache and Cariñena (but a very rare Priorat variety) allows to create a red wine and a rosé wine full of complexity in a natural way.
The Partida Pedrera (100% Grenache), produced by the talented couple, is an exceptional wine with a fresh minerality from the slate. The grapes are pressed by feet and slowly fermented in oak barrels. The Partida Pedrer Priorat has a fermentation with natural yeasts on the grapes for about 20 days, followed by a maceration after alcoholic fermentation for 10 days. Fermentation and aging take place in amphora.
This great Priorat has a deep garnet color with floral notes on the nose and ripe fruit, black berries and slightly spicy. In the mouth the wine has a velvety structure, fruity notes, mineral and supple tannins. In the mouth it is a real explosion of fruit, with a remarkably lingering taste. Enjoy it with pork tenderloin and porcini mushrooms, quail stuffed with foie gras, rabbit stew or roasted guinea fowl.
