Bright ruby red color with a lovely sultry scent in the nose, smoky, sweet fruit, jam, rosemary and thyme, a light pepperiness, cherries, earthy. This Shiraz has an elegant taste with a slight firmness and some spice and tannins, delicious vanilla, berries, plums and pepper, pleasant juice.

The wines of the Spier Estate in Stellenbosch are produced organically which means that no fertilizers, chemical pesticides and no pesticides such as herbicides are used.

Syrah, or in Australian, Shiraz, has been one of South Africa's most successful grapes in recent years. The warm climate and poor soils are very suitable for this grape, which can ripen perfectly here, without any kind of greenness. In the Cape it is warm, but not too hot, with a good cooling in the afternoons. The climate is somewhat similar to that in the Rhone region, where this delicious grape originally comes from. After picking, the grapes undergo a cold soak for two days to give them a nice deep color and lots of fruit. During fermentation, the wine is regularly pumped over the skins, also to give it more color. It is completed by maturing 20% in French oak barrels for about 8 to 10 months, depending on the vintage. This creates more depth and complexity. The rest of the wine is aged in stainless steel with French oak bars, which give it some extra wood aroma. Wood and fruit remain perfectly in balance.
