Lionel is making stunning wines and has definitely moved his 17 hectares family
domaine to the top of the first division of growers and super value in both reds
and whites. This part of Saint-Joseph, with its steep hillsides is a challenging
terrain, but the south-southeast exposure and granite soil have given this 100%
Syrah from 10-35 year old vines, its signature peppery, spicy, olive and herb
flavours.
Lionel Faury's red Hedonism is wonderful on the nose, fresh and lively with
plenty of red berry and fine tannins - charming and moreish.
"Opaque ruby. Intensely perfumed aromas of ripe red and dark berries, violet and
smoky minerals, accompanied by a hint of olive that sneaks up with air. Sappy
and focused on the palate, offering lively, spice-tinged black raspberry and
bitter cherry flavors that turn sweeter through the midpalate. Finishes quite
long, with lingering sweetness, very good clarity and gentle tannic grip."
