More than 1000 years ago, it was a monastery, but for over three centuries now
San Leonardo has served as the residence of the Marchesi Guerrieri Gonzaga
family, its proud custodians. Today, the San Leonardo estate is a garden of
vineyards and roses, protected by the massive barrier of the Alps, which blunt
the force of the cold northern winds while the valley floor benefits from, and
in turn releases, warmth from nearby Lake Garda. The tenuta remains an antique
world, in which winemaking practices, still uncompromisingly artisanal, yield
wines that are true gems of Italy’s wine tradition, marked by freshness,
harmony, and an innate elegance.
With its classic varietal structure, fine acidity, and pronounced minerality,
this Riesling offers true elegance and appealing, multi-layered complexity.
Fermentation: 12 hours of low-temperature maceration on the skins, followed by
gentle pressing and fermentation for 20/25 days.
Maturation: 12 months sur lie in new and once-used large French oak casks.
Cellarability: 10 years and more.
"Tenuta San Leonardo is full of new surprises and this is one of them. The 2013
Riesling is an elegant and noble white wine from the far North of Italy. The
bouquet is refined and polished with none of the more aggressive aromas that
Riesling can sometimes offer. Instead, you get passion fruit, preserved lemon
and candied fruit followed by toasted nut and pecan butter. The mouthfeel offers
an impressive level of zest and energy." 91 pts, Monica Larner
