Brunello di Montalcino is the most prestigious Italian wine, well-known all over the world. Exclusively made with Sangiovese grapes it is intense and full-bodied. These are picked in the Montalcino area from the end of September to mid October. The juice is fermented along with the grape skins from two to three weeks in stainless steel tanks and then aged for 4 years, of which 2 and a half are in oak barrels. Bottega's Brunello is robust, savoury and velvety with a nose of red fruit, vanilla and spices.
Gold Medal Winner: Gilbert & Gaillard 92/100 (2011 vintage) Beautiful deep colour with amber highlights. Racy nose of mild spices, coffee and herbs with Havana wood in the background. Velvety, robust, powerful palate that is nice and lively and reveals great aromatic drive and structure. Beautiful.
"A lifted, heady nose of black cherry and spicy oak flows onto a firm and juicy palate, with elegant herbal, bitter cherry notes. Attractive, if at present a little dominated by the oak. 90 points, drink 2020-27" Decanter Magazine Brunello Panel Tasting Nov 2017. (2012 vintage)
