The wine's complex aromas of black fruits, rich leather and nuances of violets burst out of the glass. Its full-bodied, rich mouthfeel carries these flavors for a long, lingering finish that loves a good grilled steak, rack of lamb or roasted duck.
Viticulture
We farm all of our vineyards naturally, without artificial pesticides or herbicides, and they are certified organic.
Vinification
We believe in minimal intervention winemaking, fermenting the grapes with indigenouse yeast at moderate temperatures that allow the wine to gain flavors and color from extended skin contact.

About the Vineyard
Milenjko Mike Grgich has been making wine since his childhood in Croatia where he studied enology at the University of Zagreb. He arrived in the Napa Valley in 1958 and worked for several prestigious wineries including Robert Mondavi before becoming winemaker at Château Montelena, where he made the 1973 Chardonnay that beat the trop French burgundies at the Judgement of Paris tasting in 1976. He opened Grgich Hills cellar in 1977 with his partner Austin Hills. As the winery purchased vineyards and developed land into vineyards it became 100% estate grown and produced for all varieties by the year 2000. This led to renaming the winery Grgich Hills Estate. Today Grgich Hills Estate has a total of 367 acres planted in five vineyards that form a string of pearls running through the heart of the Napa Valley; American Canyon, Carneros, Yountville, Rutherford and Calistoga. Each has its own unique climate and the varieties best suited for the terroir of each site have been carefully selected and planted. All the vineyards are farmed organically.
